The Cricketing Duke - Northcliffe Collection
The Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke of Norfolk were opposing captains in a charity 12-a-side cricket match at Arundel Castle The Duke of Norfolk’s Sussex home. (02/08/1953). The Duke of Edinburgh scored a respectable 18 runs but the winners of the day were the Duke of Norfolks team by an eight-run victory.
With the exception of his equerry, Lt Cdr Michael Parker RN, The Duke of Edinburgh’s men were all former England cricketers. The Duke of Norfolk’s team was mainly composed of Sussex players. Photograph by Michael Gough, Associated Newspapers.
