Welder, Severn Valley Railway by Andrew Fox

This is from a series of photographs I took along the Severn Valley Railway, mostly of the volunteers who keep the old steam trains running between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth.

I walked around the maintenance sheds to watch the engineers at work. I found this welder crouched inside a locomotive with a welding torch.

Shot on Ilford XP2 film, the set of images was used in The Independent’s weekly “Gallery” feature in 2000, which displayed six black and white photographs on one theme run from Monday to Saturday.
