Gloria Ashley, the model cartoonist Norman Pett(1891-1960) used for his ‘Susie’ strip cartoon. Pett was best known for his daily strip  Jane which ran from 1932 in the Daily Mirror. Jane’s tendency to accidentally lose her clothes was considered to be a morale booster for the troops. In 1948 Pett’s assistant took over drawing Jane, while Pett created a similar strip, Susie, modeled by Gloria Ashley for The Sunday Dispatch.
